City of Saratoga Springs
Part-Time Mayor and Planning Administrative Assistant

Salary: $10.00 to $14.00 per hour depending on qualifications.  No benefits are offered as part of this position.

Hours:  Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.  Approximately 25 hours per week.

Perform responsible, complex and recurring administrative duties as confidential assistant to the Mayor and Planning Department.  Perform routine administrative functions relating to the preparation of correspondence, coordination of information, arranging meetings and appointments, and making travel arrangements on behalf of the Mayor.  Perform special projects and research activities as directed by the Mayor or Planning Department.

Essential Job Functions

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Operate computer terminal and other office equipment.
  • Receive and respond to public inquiries on the telephone, in writing or in person.
  • Proof read documents.
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with elected and appointed officials, City employees and members of the public.

Scope of Responsibility

Individual who is assigned to this position is responsible for their own work product and for performing administrative duties and secretarial work of a complex, varied and recurring nature. These duties may involve different and unrelated processes and methods. Individuals are expected to possess considerable knowledge of modern administrative, secretarial and office procedures concerning business English, spelling, grammar and correct composition.

Typical Duties

  • Perform secretarial and administrative functions related to the preparation of reports, statistical data, correspondence, confidential memoranda and other documents for the Mayor and Planning Department.
  • Coordinate and maintain filing and records systems for the Mayor and Planning Department.
  • Operate and maintain word processing files utilizing a computer.
  • Coordinate meetings, including the scheduling of available meeting space and training sessions.
  • Respond to public inquiries in person and on the telephone.  Provide basic assistance to residents and developers at the front counter as needed.  Refer inquiries to other City employees/departments when required.
  • Collect and prepare data for a variety of reports and documents required by the Mayor and Planning Department.
  • Fold, organize, route, and file Planning Department plans with all reviewing City departments.
  • Coordinate with City staff on project submittals allowing for red-lines and corrections to be returned to applicants/developers. 
  • Send out public notices to property owners before required meetings.
  • Assist with providing Development Code updates to the Planning Commission, City Council and City staff as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Requires high school graduation or equivalent and five years of progressively responsible secretarial, administrative and human resource experience, preferably in a municipal setting.
OR
Combination of equivalent education and experience may be substituted.

Additional Requirements

Knowledge of modern office practices and equipment including substantial knowledge of word processing programs and computers. Ability to understand, analyze, and recommend actions to the Mayor and Planning Department. Ability to make and implement sound decisions and exercise good judgment.

FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER
Salt Lake City Building Services Division
$3865 - $5025 mo.

Conducts comprehensive and technical review of construction plans (commercial and residential) and modifications for compliance with applicable fire codes and national standards.  Ensures compliance with fire protection systems standards.  Reviews and examines plans, designs and specifications of complex buildings and other structures, for related fire protection systems, fire resistance, water supplies, and fire equipment. Fire fighter and inhabitant access/egress to determine if they comply with City building, construction and fire protection codes.  Makes necessary field inspections in the review and installation of approved fire protection systems, equipment and devices, fire alarm systems and life safety features.  May conduct operational tests and inspections on new fire protection equipment installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, plans and specifications; resolves compliance problems. Provides professional and competent evaluations of alternative methods and materials for compliance with applicable fire codes, ordinances, state requirements and national standards.  Attends Development Review Team conferences with contractors, architects, and engineers to cover relevant fire and life safety code issues involved in the plan review process.  Serves as a central point of contact with customers.  Answers questions over the phone and at the City Development Review area regarding City construction and fire codes and propriety of plans. Meets with the general public to settle disputes with inspectors regarding enforcement of building and fire code issues. Addresses concerns and resolves sensitive issues and technical problems. Performs other related fire protection plans review duties as requested or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in building technology, pre-engineering or pre-architectural studies or other related field, plus four (4) years plan review experience or any combination of education and experience equal to six years of plan review experience, three (3) years of which must have been in fire protection systems plans review involving proper building type classification, occupancy classification, water flow requirements, hydrant placement, installation and maintenance of fire protections systems (detection, alarm and suppression), life safety systems, access and egress systems, etc.
  • Possession of two (2) certifications from the International Code Council (ICC).  Applicants must possess and be in good standing with the ICC as a certified Fire Code Inspector in order to apply.  NFPA Fire Plan Examiner is also acceptable for the first certification. An additional certification in one other related area or ability to obtain an additional ICC certification within one (1) year of employment is also required.
  • Ability to learn and possess specific knowledge of current fire code and standards as adopted by Salt Lake City Corporations, which covers the fire, life, and safety aspects of all buildings and structures.
  • Ability to keep abreast of changes and possess knowledge of State building codes and ordinances, include the fire, building, mechanical, and plumbing codes; the National Electric Code (NEC) which covers all aspects of the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and materials within or on buildings or other structures for the safeguarding of people and property from the hazards of using electricity; and the ADA and Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities. 
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in order to interact professionally with staff and the general public.  Must be able to self-compose technical reports and deliver technical information in written and verbal form.
  • Valid Utah Driver License required to visit various construction sites or ability to obtain within two weeks of employment.
  • Considerable knowledge of all types of building construction including building, plumbing, mechanical, fire safety,  and electrical equipment, as well as structural, mechanical and electrical engineering concepts and practices as applied to fire protection and life safety construction standards.
  • Ability to make accurate engineering and mathematical computations in relation to fire protection systems, access and egress, etc.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

PLANNING DIRECTOR

Cottonwood Heights is currently accepting applications to fill a full time opening for a Planning Director.  Under the general direction of the City Manager this position is responsible for directing the City’s land use program, performing complex planning activities, organizing and directing the work of the Planning Department; performs a variety of advanced professional and technical duties as needed to implement department work plans and programs related to long range and/or current planning.  Assists in the monitoring of community compliance with established planning, zoning and development ordinances; provides staff assistance to the Planning Commission, City Council, Board of Adjustment, and other City committees. 

Minimum qualifications include the following:
∙   A Master’s Degree in planning or a related field
∙  Five years of directly related experience including two years of supervisory experience
∙  Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners

CDBG Coordinator – Utah County

Coordinates the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for Utah County. Insure adherence to Federal guidelines, identify county priorities, review and evaluate applications for eligibility. Provide assistance to eligible jurisdictions and non-profit agencies in applying for CDBG funding, coordinate training opportunities, provide application and survey assistance. Conduct environmental assessments, prepare contracts/agreements to funded applicants, oversee labor compliance issues, maintain records of funding, survey data, etc. Review and approve requests for payments, monitor progress and compliance with grant terms and conditions through onsite and desk audits, monitor the spending of CDBG funds and ensure complete expenditure of federal awards . Coordinate activities of the Utah County Review Committee in providing CDBG program oversight, establishing county policies, and in completing rating/ranking of projects and allocation of funding. In accordance with HUD guidelines, gather information from jurisdictions and other parties, complete annual update to the regional consolidated plan, distribute to jurisdictions. Coordinate with economic development, housing and homeless programs and services. Represent MAG on various boards and task forces.

Minimum Requirements:
1. A Bachelor=s degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Planning, or related, AND
2. Two (2) years of program management experience including administration of grants, contract management, community development and economic development, OR
3. An equivalent year-for-year combination of education and experience in related field.
