Audience Q & A
One of the most dominant forms of development to emerge during the past
two decades was the suburban strip mall. Many of these projects have
experienced declining revenues but their locations offer the best
opportunities for infill development.
These properties may offer excellent settings for mixed-use or
high-density residential development. ULI (Urban Land Institute) has
conducted extensive research on the opportunities for communities and
owners to transform these strips into vibrant, community assets. Michael
Pawlukiewicz, ULI Environment & Policy Education Director will present
the results of this nationwide study. Randal Jackson, ASLA,
President of The Planning Center in
Costa Mesa
,
California
, will moderate a panel of local participants as they discuss efforts in
West
Valley
City
to reposition the 3500 South Corridor. Joseph Moore, Community Development
Director for
West
Valley
City
, will be joined by representatives from UDOT, UTA and Carter Burgess
Engineers as they discuss a new approach that brings “Contextual
Sensitive Design” to state roads within our communities. All attendees
will receive a copy of the ULI publication “Ten Principles for
Reinventing America's Suburban Strips” as part of the registration fee.
