New Chapter PDO

There has been a changing of the guard in Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association.  John Janson, Assistant Community and Economic Development Director for West Valley City is stepping down as the Professional Development Officer.  After five years of devoted service in helping qualified candidates prepare for the AICP examination, John has decided to turn over the PDO reins to another bearded redhead, Jon Nepstad.  On behalf of the Chapter, thank you John, for your dedicated and excellent work.  The dozens of certified Utah planners who profited from your help extend their gratitude and appreciation.

The Chapter's new PDO is a native of Kansas City.  Jon received his Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Kansas in 1989 and began his planning career with the Kansas Department of Transportation.  In the summer of 1992, he took a position with the Wasatch Front Regional Council and helped move the Legacy Highway project forward.  Jon currently serves as the Office Manager for Fehr & Peers Associates, in charge of twelve planners and engineers.  He is an accomplished and knowledgeable film critic, enjoys skiing and is devoted to his two canine companions - Oskar, an Australian Shepard and Isabelle, a Border Collie.

Jon is interested in increasing awareness of the AICP certification to decision-makers in the public and private sectors.  "Professional certification is an important step and should be the goal of every practicing planner."
